Latest news

The new album is now at the tentative stage with all but the new tracks and the closing track 'Is It All Really Behind Me' still requiring a lot of tweaks and fine tuning. The rest are as good as complete with only minor adjustments requiring the special production treatment from Alan.

There is a rumour that the album now has an official title but this is being held back for the time being! Simon has suggested a number of titles and has finally summed up the feel of the album perfectly! "I always want a big dramatic title for our albums but Alan usually talks me down saying I give it far too much thought than I really ought to do. Still, I suppose I have to agree with him on not calling it Greetings From The Northern Hemisphere, it sounds like a discarded Tears For Fears title!"

Due to recent weather the pair have struggled to get working on the last few remaining tracks but once the Batley-Huddersfield route becomes less hazardous normal services are hoped will resume.

This has meant that the album is likely to be completed a little later than was at first hoped, although there is optimism within the camp that it could be done by April or May. The proposed E.P is still in the pipeline with 'Where Do They Get Off' as the lead track. The song is new terrain for Raspberry Tortoise in so much that it is as near to a social commentary type song as they are ever likely to achieve. "I always try to avoid coming across as too preachy or anything with the lyrics as I much prefer leaving the meaning of the song to the listener's imagination, it is more rewarding for them to take something from them rather than interpret them on their behalf. However, I think we are all sick to death of being told what we can and cannot do, what we can and cannot eat, what's good for you, what's bad for you, in essence, the Nanny State. Basically the song is a tongue in cheek reference to this ridiculous state of affairs" is how Simon describes the song. The rest of the tracks earmarked for the E.P are still as they were but this is something that we will hope to have more details on shortly...

2010 promises to be a busy year for both Alan and Simon, one which will hopefully see them perform in front of a live audience for the first time in over 20 years! Simon has let it slip that they have been retreading old songs as well as continuing work on the new material. "Alan rather sneakily insisted that it was a way of warming up my voice prior to recording any vocals but it became more frequent with each session so I think it's his way of seeing whether we could perform our songs in a live environment." Keep your diaries free for this rarest of event...
